Septic Tank Installation
Septic systems are one of the most "simplest/complex" designs in
construction. They consist of simple materials and typical systems are not
mechanical...that is, no moving parts! The main component of the system is
a watertight container that is placed underground (most models are round
or rectangular) called a Septic Tank. They can be concrete, plastic or
fiberglass. Obviously, all tanks have lid(s) so that they can be pumped
out with ease.
The tank has two pipes; an inlet and an outlet pipe. The inlet pipe comes from inside the property into the tank and is long enough so that liquid waste separates from the solid waste. The outlet pipe allows the processed wastewater from the septic tank to be evenly spread into the drainfield.
Septic tanks that have been installed post-1995/96 may also have a baffle(s). This baffle has been designed to prevent scum from clogging the inlet or outlet piping and causing septic failure. The septic tank baffle (or tee) is a device on the inlet or outlet of a septic tank which prevents sewage back-flow into the inlet or outlet pipe. Not sure if you have a baffle(s)? Our technicians will be able to tell and will also be happy to show you!
